UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 AT HOME


Windows 7 is End Of Life January 2020. Do you have a Windows 7 machine at home? Are you wondering what you should do? Do you buy a new PC with Windows 10 or upgrade? The following steps below can help you decide.

UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 AT HOME

STEP ONE:

  1. Check for legal licence of Windows 7 service pack 1 or Windows 8.1 on your PC HERE

  2. See if your HOME PC has the correct specs to allow a Windows 10 upgrade. HERE *Note most PC's have programs that run which require more than what Microsoft's specs indicate.

If your PC doesn't meet the requirements, you might want to consider a new PC purchase.

Important Note- Before you decided to upgrade your PC on your own, make sure you are aware of all the potential issues that could arise. You may need to reinstall printer drivers, data, programs and other software's. Before you decide to upgrade ensure you have all your programs CD's, download information, software licenses and logins. Make sure you take a backup of all your data before you begin. We recommend hiring a professional to assist with the upgrade, if you are not comfortable doing this yourself.

 

STEP TWO:

Take a backup.

If you have determined your PC has the correct specifications for the Windows 10 upgrade, your next step is to take a backup of your data. Here is a link to help: HOW TO BACK UP DATA

 

STEP THREE:

Download the upgrade.

Once your data is backed up and checked for accuracy, your ready to download the Windows 10 program on your PC.

  1. Make sure you are connected to a strong Internet connection. (WIFI NOT recommended)

  2. Plug your PC in to a power outlet. (Don't use the battery)

  3. Go to this link: HERE

  4. Choose the "Download Tool Now"

  5. This will take time, so Do Not Be in a Hurry.

*Note this is just downloading the program to your PC, not installing it.

 

STEP FOUR:

Install the Windows 10 program on your PC.

  1. Make sure you are connected to a strong Internet connection. (WIFI NOT recommended)

  2. Plug your PC in to a power outlet. (Don't use the battery)

  3. Begin your install.

  4. Make sure to check "KEEP" personal files and apps if you want to keep your data.

  5. Follow the prompts, you will be prompted to restart several times.

  6. Once the upgrade is done, you may have to do other driver upgrade for printers and such that you have on your PC’s.
